Michael R. Pagnotto, M.D. returned to the Pittsburgh area to join Tri-State
Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in 2011. A native of the Pittsburgh region, Dr. Pagnotto is a
proud graduate of North Allegheny High School. He then attended
Princeton University where he graduated cum laude with a degree in Chemical Engineering and a
certificate in Engineering Biology. While at Princeton, Dr. Pagnotto was a two-year captain of the
varsity Sprint Football Team, president of the Alpine
Ski Team, and president of Athletes in Action Fellowship. He was named to the Academic All-Ivy
League Team in sprint football. Dr. Pagnotto earned his medical degree from Columbia University in
New York City and completed his orthopaedic surgery residency
at the University of Pittsburgh. He then completed his advanced fellowship training in hip and knee
replacement at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
Dr. Pagnotto utilizes the most advanced techniques in primary and secondary joint revision surgery of
the hip and knee by offering minimally invasive total joint replacement surgery, partial knee
replacement, and multimodal pain management resulting in
faster and less painful recovery. He is one of the first surgeons in the region to offer his
patients robot-assisted partial knee replacement and hip replacement. The robot assisted technique
utilizes 3D modeling to achieve more exact implant positioning
and is clinically proven to improve patient outcomes. Dr. Pagnotto earned the distinguished honor of
being named to the UPMC Hip and Knee Joint Replacement Surgery Center of Excellence at UPMC
Passavant Hospital by demonstrating rigorous quality measures
with excellent outcomes and exceptional patient experiences.
Dr. Pagnotto is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and serves on the
editorial board of The Journal of Arthroplasty. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of
Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the American Association
of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
