Brian F. Jewell, M.D. joined Tri-State Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in 1993. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from Ohio Northern University and his Doctorate of Medicine from the Medical College of Ohio in 1987. Dr. Jewell completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the Detroit Medical Center and Shriners Hospital, where he served as Chief Resident. He then completed a fellowship in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery at Rush Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago.
Dr. Jewell specializes in shoulder and knee surgery, including arthroscopic and replacement procedures, as well as sports medicine. He has served as an orthopaedic consultant for the Pittsburgh Pirates for more than nine years and has been the team physician for North Allegheny High School for more than 30 years. During his career he has treated MLB All-Stars and Hall of Famers. Dr. Jewell has been named one of Pittsburgh’s Top Doctors by Pittsburgh Magazine for five consecutive years and is a designated UPMC Knee Center of Excellence surgeon at UPMC Passavant Hospital. He is a huge believer in conservative treatment modalities such as bracing, physical therapy and the use of biologics to improve patient function and prevent the need for surgery. Dr. Jewell is Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
