Mark J. Langhans, M.D. joined Tri-State Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in 1994. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1981, graduating magna cum laude, and his Doctorate of Medicine from Northwestern University in 1985, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Dr. Langhans completed his internship at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, followed by his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Rochester, where he served as Chief Resident. He then completed a fellowship in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery at the Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Langhans specializes in knee and shoulder arthroscopy, anatomic ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair, rotator cuff repair, shoulder instability surgery, knee replacement, and total shoulder arthroplasty. He has served as an orthopaedic consultant for the Pittsburgh Pirates for more than eight years and is the head team physician for the North Allegheny School District, covering all sports. Dr. Langhans has been named one of the Best Doctors in America by Pittsburgh Magazine for six consecutive years. For many of the younger patients he sees with sports injuries, as well as older patients with arthritic problems, surgery is a last resort, with options ranging from medications to viscosupplementation to physical therapy. Dr. Langhans is Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
